21 YEARS OF AIMES AWARDS

$180,000 Up For Grabs

Young high achievers based north of the Harbour Bridge are about to receive the opportunity to kick start their careers with the announcement of $180,000 worth of award grants being up for grabs in the annual AIMES Awards.

Applications open on Wednesday 29th June for the North Harbour Club AIMES Awards. These awards recognise and reward outstanding young achievers in the North Harbour region in the fields of the Arts, IT & Innovation, Music, Education, Sport and Service to the Community (hence, AIMES).

Previous winners include two-time Grammy Award winner Ella Yelich-O’Connor (Lorde), the youngest ever golfer to reach number one on the professional circuit Lydia Ko, and multiple award winning and internationally renowned opera singer Moses Mackay, now of Sol3 Mio.

The region’s youth are the recipients of the Club’s mandate and by the end of 2015, over $1.7 million worth of grants had been made to North Harbour youth (aged 10-25) who were achieving excellence in their chosen field. The AIMES Awards makes the North Harbour Club one of the largest charitable donors in the country, outside of government agencies.

2016 is an exciting year with a number of AIMES Alumni heading to compete at the Rio Olympics. Former winners Michael Brake, Jo Aleh, Eliza McCartney, Gemma Jones, Jacko Gill and Lydia Ko will all be representing New Zealand in their chosen fields and we are honoured to have supported them early on in their careers.

The AIMES Awards (also including an Emerging Talent Award category) are open to those aged 14 to 25. The Junior Excellence Awards are exclusively for those aged between 10 and 13 years.

For the first time in the 20 year history of the AIMES Awards, this years judging panel also has the inclusion of a past winner. Andrew MacDonald took out the Education category in 2012 and has gone on to be an Orthopaedic Surgeon at North Shore Hospital. His experience and insights will be invaluable to the judging panel.

AIMES Awards applications close Friday August 5 and will be presented at awards functions in November 2016.
